A Thank You to My Mental Health Team: A Poem About Hope and Healing

Some of my last posts have been heavy. Others have been long. So, today I thought I would share a poem. It is a poem that recognizes the presence of psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, and counselors on the journeys so many of us struggle through as we navigate life with mental illness. As I share this poem, I say thank you to my mental health care team. Every one of you makes a difference in my life. I could not get through life without you. I am grateful beyond words. Hopefully, this poem shares that.

For all the other mental health care professionals reading this, thank you. Your work makes a difference.

I Turn to You

When life is turned upside down

And everything is in disarray,

I turn to you.

Needing someone to make sense of the madness.

Searching for a reason I feel so much pain.

You quietly reassure me,

Remind me I am not alone.

Just a few words are all it takes.

Your words healing me,

Soothing my aches.

Quieting my mind.

I turn to you,

Know you are there.

I take comfort in your words,

And live to fight another day.
